About
On the surface, it may seem presumptuous to name a site SmartPastor.com. If the author of this site was sending down wisdom from a lofty perch, it would be. But that is not SmartPastor.com.
SmartPastor.com is dedicated to challenging, informing, equipping, inspiring, amusing, and frustrating those who do ministry professionally.
The author of SmartPastor.com (Jeff, see below) is not an expert, but rather learning as he goes…probably just like you. SmartPastor.com is an investigation into people, culture, theology, skills, ideas, life….a journey towards becoming a smarter and more effective pastor.
To do this, SmartPastor.com will provide several new content pieces a day, six days a week. (On the seventh day SmartPastor.com rested.) Some of it will be new, but most of it will be taking the overwhelming amount of data on the Internet and narrowing it down to the best of the best.
Some of what you can expect to see regularly includes…
- Seven Items of Interest – A roundup of links, cartoons, pictures, and more to inform, illustrate, and amuse.
- Rare Leadership – Tools and ideas that may make your life and ministry easier, peaceful, and more abundant
- Tech Seminary – Training on using technology more effectively in ministry.
- Morning Coffee – A daily motivational quote or thought
- Ministry Bookshelf – Brief book reviews and notes
- Church 2.0 – My thoughts on what the church ought to look like going forward
- Helpful Links – Some of the web’s most thought provoking content from conservative, liberal, and even “secular” sources.
- YouTube Friday – A funny or thought provoking YouTube or Google Video Clip each Friday.
What SmartPastor.com is not…
- Unbiased - Fox News might claim that they report, you decide. Here at Smart Pastor we report and decide – we define what is smart and what is not.
- Politically Correct – Smart Pastor will be a little bit edgy at times…we might link to a post with language you would not want you mom to hear…we will probably make fun of your denomination…we make no apologies about disliking the Slice of Laodicea…we think the Seahawks were robbed by the referees in the Superbowl.
- A Democracy – We are happy to post comments on stories but we also reserve the right to refuse.
- Consistent - I am trying to figure out ministry just like you. I reserve the right to change my mind and contradict myself.
Oh yea, SmartPastor.com is a business. I will run ads, recommend useful products, and some day may even sell some of my own products or services. The content will always be free…but I would love to help my kids go to college someday. So buy a good book, will ya?!?
About Jeff
Born naked, helpless and unable to fend for himself, Jeff Berg overcame his inauspicious start to become the Pastor of Family Ministries at LifeSpring Covenant Church in Loveland, Colorado. Born a PK (programmer’s kid) in Seattle, he has studied at Denver, Regent, and North Park Seminaries. As of 2009, he has been a pastor for 13 years and doing “professional” ministry for over 16. He is the father of two great kids and married to a wonderful and beautiful woman. When not running SmartPastor.com or serving the church, Jeff enjoys reading, playing super-hero with his boys, batting cleanup and playing SS for his softball team (Bats: L, Throws: R), watching sports (Seattle Mariners and Washington Husky Football), and a good laugh (Seattle Mariners and Washington Husky Football.)
