Are you charismatic enough to pastor?
I don’t think I am alone in looking at some pastors and having a little pit of envy. I envy their skills, gifts, abilities, and charisma. I know I am to be content with the gifts God has given to me (Cynicism? I mean, discernment), but I can’t help but wish for others. I also can’t help but wonder what gifts are given from God and what are skills that I can/should develop.
According to the blog of one of my favorite magazines, Fast Company, charisma is one of those things can is not inborn but can be learned. They argue that you can reduce charisma down to a few basic behaviors and if you do that, you have it. The behaviors are…
1. Being able to draw others into their world and make them feel important.
2. People with charisma really like people, find them fascinating, and look forward to meeting new ones.
3. They project a sense of personal comfort and confidence.
Is that you? Can you do that? Can you remind yourself of how simple it is? Can you(I) improve those things?

I share that envy. I suppose the only way to become charismatic (well, short of an actual charism) is to work at it and be successful over time. Because I’m introverted, I have to consciously think about engaging other people. But it does seem to work, if I keep plugging away….
