High Tech Tools for the Productive Pastor #4

Here is another tool I use weekly….Zamzar.
Zamzar is a free file conversion website. Suppose you get an PDF file you would like to be able to convert to a .doc file. No problem. Just surf over to Zamzar, upload it, choose .doc from the drop down menu to have in converted to that format, and then enter your email address. After it is converted, Zamzar will send you an email letting you know your file is ready for download. Then you click on the link emailed to you, go to the web page, and download your file. This whole process can take as little as a few minutes or as much as a few hours.
This useful site is able to convert a wide range of image, audio, document, video, and a few other file formats I am not familiar with.
Another cool feature…use Zamzar with YouTube. Were you to find a youtube video you wanted to show via Media Shout or some other presentation software, Zamzar can convert the URL of the video into the video file format of your choice. Zamzar is also able to convert web pages into more than just video files on YouTube.
The basic Zamzar service is free. Should you want to convert files of a size greater than 100MB, you will need to pay for one of their teirs of service. The bottom teir starts at 7 dollars.
One thing I am not crazy about with the service is the excessive number of ads on the site. You are inundated with pop-ups and flashing banners of all types. But, I suppose advertising is their business model so I am willing to put up with it. On the plus side, I have never seen anything other than a family friendly ad.
So check out Zamzar, it is another high tech tool for the Productive Pastor.

Another similar service is provided by http://www.media-convert.net. I tend to use them more, because I don’t need to wait for an email. They convert your file and then you simply download it. Like Zamzar they have ads, but I also have not seen any questionable ads. To my knowledge, they don’t offer a subscription model. That being said, both sites have helped me out of a tight spot a number of times.
