This one has made my life much easier.  It is called JOTT and it is a phone number I call to send a note or reminder to whomever I choose.

Here is video of it in action.  (RSS types…you may need to click through to read it.)

I basically use it one way at this point….to send reminders to myself.  Suppose I am driving along and realize that I have not sent a card to a person in my church that I need to, I simply call JOTT, say "myself," and then speak the to-do item.  The task is then e-mailed to myself and is waiting for me when I check my e-mail.   When it is in my inbox, I simply process the e-mail…either acting on it right away or transferring it to my to do list.

It is much easier and safer than sending a text message to your e-mail inbox and much more reliable than calling your voice mail at home with a to do item (anybody else had a child erase a message?).

As you can see by the short video, I could send an e-mail or text message to a group, but I have not taken the time to set it up nor do I think I will anytime soon.

If you keep your to-do lists electronically, you could configure JOTT to send your JOTT to that list.  (assuming your list has the ability to have tasks e-mailed to it.)  Backpack and Remember the Milk have this feature.

JOTT is quick.  The e-mail arrives within minutes of sending it.

The computer that does the transcribing is not perfect, but it does well enough that I always know what I am supposed to be doing.  (You or your recipient can also listen to the original audio source.)

More more thing.  Not only is JOTT quite handy…it is free!  I would assume that some where down the road they will charge if you use the service more than a certain number of times a day or have more than X number of contacts in your address book, but for simple use the cost is zero.  It does not get much better than that.

Happy Jotting.
