From the Mega Church Pastor and author news desk:

In the past two years, Max Lucado, senior minister at San Antonio’s Oak Hills Church and a best-selling Christian author, has completed three half-Ironman Triathlons.

Given that, it was unusual for the man called "America’s Best Preacher" in 2005 by Reader’s Digest to suddenly feel exhausted.

In August, he learned he has atrial fibrillation, a disorder the American Heart Association says affects more than 2 million Americans. If left untreated, heart arrhythmia can lead to a stroke.

"I told our elders, ‘Your quarterback’s tired,’" said Lucado, who advised them two weeks ago of his decision to step down after nearly 20 years.

Lucado said he is being treated with medication.

Members of his congregation learned about Lucado’s decision over the weekend.

Lucado, 52, said he will keep his senior minister status until a successor is named and will remain on the church staff as a teaching minister.

I know a good number of lay persons are blessed by his books.  It is good to read that he will continue to write.
