I am an information junkie…probably to a fault. I look at way to many blogs and read to much news on a given day. Some of the great stuff I pass on regularly in my Smart Links posts. The stuff I read and want to have for future reference I save on Del.icio.us. But what about the stuff that is good, but not great? What about things I want to share but not send to one of those venues? I “micro blog” it with Tumblr.

Why would you want to use Tumblr? Suppose you are a pastor who wants to share some of his (or her) finds with his (or her) church. With a simple bookmark to your Firefox Link Tool bar, you can post it for the world to see. You don’t have to cut and paste, you don’t have to edit, you don’t have to go through any steps…you just push a few buttons and it is up. Simply put, it is an easy way to blog if you don’t really want to blog.

With Tumblr I can post some text quickly, copy text and fire a quote up, auto post a you tube video, send up a link, or copy a photo…all of which will show up on your link blog.

Tumblr also offers RSS feeds which allows for your readers to subscribe to your content rather than having to come to the site to check it.

Right now, the couple of features I wish Tumblr had. One is the ability to search your links as well as the ability to do some real simple categorizing…but then I suppose it would be more of a traditional blog and not a link blog.

Now, you might be wondering how much this free, easy service costs. Answer…free. Down the road they may offer premium services at a cost, but for now the basic service is on the house.

If you would like to see my tumblr, you can do so at jeffberg.tumblr.com. If you start a tumblr of your own, let me know so I can subscribe to it.
