The Monday Hack – AVG Antivirus
I work at a mid sized church. Our average Sunday attendance is about 500 people. We have 10 computers in our building that require anti-virus software. That means my church spends hundreds of dollars a year keeping them safe.
That really is a small price to pay considering what could happen should data become infected. But why pay it at all?
That was the premise of a previous post on Clamwin. I downloaded Clamwin on the computers in the department I have charge of and have not had any problems with respect to viruses. But, after some use there were a few things I did not like about it. One, Clamwin was very slow. It just took a lot longer to scan my computer then I would have liked. (I like to set it to scan while in staff meeting.) And, two, Clamwin was not recognized by Windows XP. Windows kept on telling me that I needed to load anti-virus software.
So I tried another free product, AVG, and think I may like it a little better. One, it is much quicker. And two, it makes Windows happy and does not keep insisting that I load anti-virus software.
So if you are looking to try a different anti-virus solution, check out AVG. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

You may want to check on the licensing of AVG Free Edition. It states it is for private, non-commercial use, but they may make exceptions or offer discounts for churches.

Thanks, Nathan….I will look into it.
Update: Hmmm…I did not read the find print. It looks like you should go with Clam Win. For what it is worth, I had dropped AVG and gone back to Clam Win. Thanks again, Nathan.
