Today as we continue our series “Firefox Evangelism – Extensions that will make you convert from Internet Explorer” we will look at another very useful extension, The Split Browser Extension.

The Split Browser extension is basically an extension that allows you to look at a couple of web pages next to each other. Why might this be helpful? Try this example…

Suppose you want to reference information from a web page for some facts and figures in an e-mail but, for whatever reason, do not want to cut and paste the text. You can, after installing this extension, have your gmail (or other web mail) open next to the page you are looking at. See the following picture for an example of what it would like like with the split browser opened below.

Basically it can be like having an interlinear Bible like interface on your Firefox browser. You can view the new page you open to the right, left, above, or below the page you are looking at. You would do this by “right clicking” the link you want to open, then choosing the “open in split browser” option, and finally picking where you want it to open.

Of course, you do not need to look at a new page with the split browser extension, you can still open a new page via the “tabbed” browsing feature made famous by Firefox.

Do you have a Firefox extension you love? Contact me with it and I will include it in a reader generated list. If you are a blogger I will link back to your site!
