I love this extension. It allows me to take a picture I find online and, with a few mouse clicks, save it for later use. So today on Firefox Evangelism I want to highlight the upload to ImageShack Firefox extension.

Why might this be valuable? Suppose you run into a picture online you think might make a good background in a Powerpoint slide. What could you do? You could save it onto your hard disk. You could bookmark it. You could use the Google Notebook to save it. (that is actually a pretty good second option) Or, you could right click on the picture with your new extension and send it to your free Imageshack account.

I prefer the Imageshack option because,

  • It is easy to find picture later by looking at the thumbnails.
  • It can be used across multiple computers. Assuming you use a computer at work as well as at home, you can have access at both places.
  • If you are a blogger or run some sort of web site, you can hotlink to the photos for use in a web page.
  • If you have two small windows sitting side by side, (for example your ImageShack account in Firefox and Impress) you can drag photos into the file you are working on. It will then be embedded into your file.

Here is what you need to do to use it.

  1. Download Firefox
  2. Sign up for an ImageShack account
  3. Download the Extension.
  4. Use it and save images you will want later.

It is really that simple. Of course, there are copyright issues involved with using this, but I trust you can sort those things out on your own.

Like most of these extensions, if it does not work for you, don’t use it. But at least try it and see if it does not make your computing life easier.
