Why not 40 days?
I found this on the front page of Drudge. (I don’t believe it is up anymore.)
Florida pastor Paul Wirth wants his parishioners to make love — a whole lot of love.
Wirth said the supposed 50 percent divorce rate is the reason behind the 30-Day Sex Challenge.
He said too many couples let the stress of jobs and daily life get in the way of intimacy. But there’s a catch to the pastor’s every day sex challenge — it’s for married couples only.
Unmarried people — even if they are in a long-term relationship or living with someone — are asked to abstain from sex for 30 days. (Source)
You know, 40 is a Biblical number. I say, if you are going to go for it, go for 40, not 30.
Okay, now in all seriousness, I wonder how well this is going to work. To me a large part of marriage failure among Christians is both parties not “submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.” While sex is a part of that, it is not the whole issue. In fairness to the church, since this is all I know I will assume that this issue will be addressed as something greater than a frequency issue.
The series has a web site up (though as of now down due to bandwidth issues) you can check out. It might speak to some of the questions I had.
You can also see a news story about the 30 day challenge here.
Please don’t let me know if your spouse agrees to this. I like to know about the readers of this site…but not that much!
