I just finished a book I was looking forward to reading but found disappointing, Churchill on Leadership.  The book is part a biography of Winston Churchill and part leadership text.

One of the few gems was found on page 41.  It is what Churchill called is "Five Distinct Truths" governing decisions about military operations.  I think they make a lot of sense for church boards and leadership teams too.  If they are in place, it makes sense to proceed.

  1. That there is full authority.
  2. That there is a reasonable prospect of success.
  3. That greater interests are not compromised.
  4. That all possible care are forethought are exercised in the preparation.
  5. That all vigor and determination are shown in the execution.

Also from the book.

"A Government should keep its ear to the ground but they should also remember that this is not a very dignified attitude…The British nation will find it very hard to look up to leaders who are detected in that somewhat ungainly posture."
